Chennai, Feb 1 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Local Administration Minister M K Stalin will visit Japan this week to seek approval from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) for the Hogenakkal Combined Water Supply Scheme, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi told the State Assembly today.
Replying to the debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor's address, he said Mr Stalin would be accompanied by a team of officials from both the Union and State Governments.
The team would hold discussions to secure financial assistance from JBIC for the scheme, which would be the only permanent solution to the drinking water problems of Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts in the State, the Chief Minister said.
Thanks to the determined efforts of the DMK Government, the Centre had recommended the scheme for financial assistance from JBIC, Mr Karunanidhi said.
A team of JBIC had visited Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts and conducted studies about the scheme. The approval for the scheme would be obtained based on the final negotiations now.
