Rs nine crore worth illicit liquor seized
Bangalore, Feb 1(UNI) About Rs nine crore worth illicit liquor, spirit and spurious IML had been seized in Karnataka since the sale and manufacture of arrack was banned during August last year.
Director General and Inspector General of Police, Excise Enforcement, K R Srinivasan in a press release here today said the Cell raided many places and seized illicit liquor worth Rs 8.75 crore till January 31.
Lauding the commendable work of Cell personnel, a cash reward of Rs 18.15 lakh was announced. The recipients of the award also included Police Commissioner of Hubli and Dharwad (Rs 2.25 lakh) and two SP's from Dharwar and Belgaum, will receive Rs two lakh each for their meritorious feat.
The JD(S)-BJP coalition Government had imposed a ban on the sale and manufacture of arrack, the poorman's booze, in August 2007.
