NCP minority cell demands implementation of Sachar panel suggestions
Mumbai, Feb 1 (UNI) The minority cell of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) today observed a one-day hunger strike, demanding immediate implementation of the Sachar Committee recommendations.
More than 500 NCP activists went on one-day hunger strike at Azad Maidan here, which was organised by Mumbai President of the Minority Cell Ebrahim Sheikh.
Mr Sheikh said that the Sachar committee had submitted its report to the Central Government long ago and the government is hesitating to implement the same.
Mr Sheikh said, ''We are asking our party leaders in the Union Government to persuade the government to implement the Sachar committee report as it deals with the development of minorities, especially the Muslims.'' Mumbai NCP Executive President Nawab Malik in his speech said the recommendations of the Sachar Committee will improve the comditions of the Muslims economically and educationally and that the minorities were only demanding their right from the government.
