Mega Trade Fair to make Rs 500 Cr business

Kolkata, Feb 1 (UNI) The India International Mega Trade Fair-08 at the Science City ground is expected to generate Rs 500 crore business within the next nine days, organisers of the fair claimed.

The fair, the fourth edition, presented by Bharat Chamber of Commerce and organised by G S Marketing Associates, was being organised to encourage the interest of the industry and trade prospects in West Bengal than being a profit making venture, BCC president P R Agarwala said.

He said more than 300 companies from across the country and abroad were using the mega fair as the platform to showcase, launch and popularise their products and services. The companies have displayed their wares in the seven centrally air-conditioned hangers showcasing home appliances, furniture, decor, electronics and lifestyle products.

Pakistan and Bangladesh have also taken part in the 10-day fair which will remain open from 1100 hours to 2000 hours every day until February 10.

Booking of ownership flats at different locations was also being done as many developers and promoters opened their stalls.

The fair, first held at Kolkata Maidan in 2004, has been shifted to 3.5 lakh sq ft ground of Science City at Eastern Bypass, is expected to have 5 lakh visitors, 50,000 every day, the organisers said.

West Bengal Legislative Assembly Speaker Hasim Abdul Halim, who inaugurated the fair, said the government was doing its best to set up industries of all sizes and added that this fair would give an impetus to indistrialisation of the state. He said the state was proud to have Nano, the smallest vehicle ever produced, emerge from a factory in West Bengal.
