Killer of students leader shot dead in encounter

Lucknow, Feb 1 (UNI) Police gunned down the killer of a students leader, carrying a bounty of Rs 10,000 on his head, in Ghazipur area here today.

Working on a tip-off, cops cordoned off the area. On being challenged, the accused opened fire.

In the ensuing encounter, a history-sheeter was killed.

His aides, however, managed to flew the coop.

The slain criminal was identified as Jai Singh alias Jagdamba of Faizabad.

A foreign pistol and a large number of cartridges were recovered from the spot.

Jai was wanted in connection with several cases of murder across UP.

On December 10, he had shot dead a students leader and his aide in the posh Gomti Nagar area of the state capital.
