Chandigarh, Feb.1 : The Government of Haryana has written a letter to the Centre asking for the Central Investigation Bureau (CBI) to probe the kidney racket that originated in Guragon and had been spread across several states and countries. The request for a CBI probe was made after the State Government received a detailed report from Haryana's Director General of Police R S Dalal.

State Home Secretary K S Bhoria said on Friday that the State Government desired the CBI probe because of the racket's cross-border and international links. Bhoria also confirmed that Haryana Police would continue its probe into the kidney scandal pending a CBI investigation. The Centre has already expressed its desire that the case be probed by the CBI. Four persons have so far been arrested in connection with the kidney transplantation racket. Gurgaon-based doctor Dr Amit Kumar, who is the kingpin of the racket, is absconding.

Meanwhile, Interpol on Friday issued international warrants for the arrest of kidney transplant racket kingpin Amit Kumar and his brother Jeevan.

Kumar, dubbed as "Dr Horror" by the media for allegedly supplying hundreds of kidneys bought or coerced from poor donors, was reportedly running the operation partly from an unknown location in Canada, where his family is said to be living.

The development came barely a day after the investigations in the kidney scam widened with the police detaining at least five doctors at different places in north India.

This was the outcome of the raids conducted by Moradabad police at several places in Haryana, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, UP, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.

Some of the doctors being questioned were named by accused Upender Kumar Aggarwal.
