City residents urged to conserve power

Chandigarh, Feb 1 (UNI) Switch on geysers in the night hours, curtail use of heaters and blowers and use energy efficient appliances---these are some of the tips that the UT Administration has suggested to the city dwellers to tide over the power crunch during the severe cold spell.

The Chandigarh Administration today appealed to the residents to use electricity judiciously, particularly in morning hours as power consumption has tremendously increased due to the severe cold weather in the northern region.

Stressing that the Chandigarh had no power generation of its own and was entirely dependent upon Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) and various Central power projects for power supply, an official release said that the city was already overdrawing power and further overdrawal could lead to failure of the Grid system, thus, plunging the whole region into darkness.

The small energy conservation steps by people of Chandigarh could help in avoiding regular power cuts in the city, the release added.
