All deserving sections should have reservation: Cong

New Delhi, Feb 1 (UNI) The Congress today said it favoured reservation for all deserving sections of people, including Dalit Muslims and Christians.

Asked about Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati's demand for reservation in jobs for Dalit Muslims and Christians, AICC spokesman Shakeel Ahmed said this was not the first time such suggestion had been made.

Various other political leaders had also made similar suggestions, but a consensus was needed for taking a decision.

The government was considering the suggestions and making efforts to arrive at a political consensus.

The Congress was for providing reservation to not only these sections but to all other deserving people, he said.

Similar suggestions had also been made by the Ranganath Misra Commission and the Rajinder Sachar Committee report on the welfare of minorities, he pointed out.
