Alert motorman averts mishap

Mumbai, Feb 1 (UNI) A major disaster was averted on the harbour line of the Central Railway (CR) due to the alertness of the motorman who immediately halted the train upon noticing iron bars jutting down over the tracks from the foot overbridge near Chembur suburban station here today.

Central Railway spokesperson A K Singh said motorman V R Meena, who was on duty in the Panvel-CST train, noticed the jutting iron bars and halted the train before it could dash the bars.

However, rail traffic on the line was disrupted for about 40 minutes owing to the sudden halting of the train and the subsequent clearing work.
