Air passenger held with narcotics worth Rs 30 lakh

Chennai, Feb 1: A Malaysian-bound passenger has been arrested at the Airport here after the Customs found narcotics worth Rs 30 lakh in his suitcase, midnight last night.

Airport sources said Malik Thamim Ansari (22), a native of the city, was about to board the Chennai-Kualumpur Jet Airways Flight when the Customs stopped him on suspicion and asked him about the purpose of his journey.

When he was unable to give a coherent reply, his baggage was checked revealing the contraband of tablets and capsules packed in a plastic bag.

The seized drugs, estimated to be worth about Rs 30 lakh in the international market, have been sent to the lab for analysis.
