Villager shot dead by security man for stealing coal

Purulia, Jan 31: A private security agency personnel shot dead a man in Paradih in Santaldih subdivision of Purulia district, when the latter was trying to steal coal from Santaldih Thermal Power Plant here this afternoon.

Police said that the villagers in retaliation gheraoed the security man and beat him up. He has been admitted to Purulia sadar hospital, where his condition was stated to be critical.

Furthermore, villagers blocked the road in front of the plant for five hours.

Additional SP Purulia Pranab Kumar Das, who rushed to the site this afternoon with a huge police force, somehow managed to pacify the mob and assured to arrange compensation for the victim's family.
