Sukhbir Badal elected president of SAD
Amritsar, Jan 31 (UNI) The ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today elected Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal, son of chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, as president of the party.
Sukhbir Badal, MP from Faridkot, was the working president of the SAD. He was appointed to this post after SAD-BJP came to power in March last year.
The name of Sukhbir Badal was proposed by Rural Development minister Ranjit Singh Brahmpura and was endorsed by Cooperatives minister Capt Kanwaljit Singh.
Senior SAD leader and MP from Sangrur Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa seconded the proposal at the delegates session of the SAD held at Teja Singh Samundri Hall in the Golden Temple complex here.
The Junior Badal was declared elected unanimously as there was no other candidate to oppose him.
Sukhbir Badal succeeds his father as party chief.
