State-of-art medical institute begins functioning in Punjab
Amritsar, Jan 31 (UNI) Medical facilities in the Holy City got a major flip-in when Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal inaugurated the first phase of the Guru Ram Das Centre for Emergency, Trauma and Multi Speciality Care at the Government Medical College here today.
This is the largest ever medical institute to be cons tructed in the state at a total investment of Rs 140 crore.
The institute on completion would put the upgradation and development plan of the local Government Medical College and associated hospitals on fast track.
The proposed super speciality centers to be constructed as a part of this project would be Bebe Nanki Centre for Mother and Child care, Guru Teg Bahadur Block for Imaging and Diagnostic Services with super speciality wards, Swami Vivekananda Drug Dependence Treatment Centre and a state-of-the-art service block to serve all the institutes.
The notable feature of the project on completion would be a all weather bridge that would connect all the Blocks.
The total area of the whole complex when fully built would be 23,850 meter and the proposed projects.
Medical Education Minister Tikshan Sud who was also present said that to provide moral and religious support to the patients and their attendants, every ward floor would have one prayer room with audio connectivity to relay religious and devotional music.
The Guru Ram Das centre would have 200 bedded emergency-cum-super specialty seven storied block, which has been constructed at a cost of Rs 18 lakh including machinery cost. This capacity will later go upto 550 beds while another 300 plus beds would be added in the other three centres.
The first floor of the Guru Ram Das centre will have facility for emergency, surgery and orthopedic surgery. In addition there are four ultrasound operation theaters with central sterilization system.
The block (centre) also has provision for 10 private rooms, medicine critical care, cath lab. Plastic surgery, burns and urology department would be shifted to this block next month.
The entire project has been conceptualized by Dr J S Bajaj, vice chairman of Punjab Planning Board who was also present.
