Rodrigues takes stock of work on different projects
Chandigarh, Jan 31 (UNI) To develop Sarangpur Institutional Area as an integrated township, Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Union Territory Administrator, General (Retd.) S F Rodrigues, today took stock of the progress of work on different projects including Education City, Film City, Amusement Park, Equestrian Academy etc.
He visited the site and discussed with senior officers of the Chandigarh Administration the broader framework and roadmap for creation of infrastructure, including access roads network and other connectivity means, water supply, electricity and provision of adequate health services for the citizens.
He told the officers to adopt technologically advanced methods for delivery of various services and a hassle free traffic circuit with need based transport services to different wings of the Institutional area.
He asked the officers to introduce adequate solar power and water harvesting systems in the planning process of different projects. He suggested the need to develop an "eventing" track in the equestrian academy, to meet future needs.
General Rodrigues also visited the Modern Terminal Market site and discussed the status of work on this project. He told the officers that this was a vital project for the farming community of the region and it must provide varied market services including food processing and also non-market services related to agriculture.
He asked the team of officers, including Home Secretary, Finance Secretary, Deputy Commissioner, Chief Architect and Chief Engineer, to put in place an effective mechanism for coordinating the different agencies involved in the execution of various components of this project.
He told them that since this project would cater to the needs of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, western part of Uttar Pradesh and Union Territory of Chandigarh, the needs of efficient road and railway connectivity, power, water supply and other services must be planned as a long term measure for meeting the growing needs.
General Rodrigues also asked the officers to identify vacant spaces in all parts of the city and institute a speedy planning process for their profitable use and setting up public utility projects making the life of people more convenient and comfortable.
He asked the Deputy Commissioner to take effective steps for removing encroachments on government land which are hindering the development and growth of the City.
