GSK enters Rs 600 cr nutrition supplement segment
New Delhi, Jan 31 (UNI) Eyeing the lucrative Rs 600 crore nutritional food supplement market, GlaxoSmithKline today launched its brand 'Glaxo Nutrition'.
''We are entering the specialised nutrition category under the umbrella of Glaxo Nutrition, which will strengthen our existing portfolio of products,'' said company Managing Director Zubair Ahmed.
The nutrition supplement market is witnessing a high growth rate, with the global market being pegged at 33 billion dollars.
The company launched its first product in the category--ActiBase, which is a protein supplement. ''The product has been developed in India keeping in mind the need of the country's population,'' Mr Ahmed said.
Priced at Rs 240 per 200 grams, the product will be marketed through doctor's prescription, he added.
The product will be introduced in a phased manner. ''We will bring the product to the metros followed by smaller cities,'' said Mr Ahmed.
The company is also planning on bringing some of its products from its global portfolio like Sensodyne, Lucozade and Ribena over the next three years.
