Collector's instructions on child marriages

Tirupati, Jan 31 (UNI) Chittoor Collector S S Rawat today asked officials, police and NGOs to identify sensitive areas where child marriages will be held during the February five 'Sivaratri' Festival at Srikalahasti.

Holding a review meeting with district officials, police and NGOs on preventing the child marriages which are held during Sivaratri,he asked officials to hold a strict vigil at sensitive areas.

Child marriages are performed by some families due to lack of awareness and economic problems, the Collector said and stressed on the need to create awareness on its implications.

The administration had been successful in preventing such marriages for the last three years, he recalled.
