Water resources team to study Himalayan glacier melt
New Delhi, Jan 30 (UNI) Concerned about the reports of melting glaciers in the Himalayas, the Union Water Resources Ministry has commissioned its own study at Gangotri and Zanskar and was expecting the first report by July, Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz said here today.
Making the announcement at the '8th Editor's Conference on Social Issues 2008', the minister said there was a problem and a team will study and submit their report to the ministry giving their impressions if the glacier melting was much more than natural melting, resulting in shrinking of the glaciers due to human activities or some other causes. "Apart from other sources, we too will document what is happening in the melting", Prof Soz said.
