NGO demands tabling of progress report on RTI implementation in assy
Lucknow, Jan 30 (UNI) An NGO today slammed the Mayawati government for failing to properly implement the Right to Information Act in the State.
The Action Group for RTI today demanded the State government to table a monitoring report of the RTI Act implementation in the State in the coming Budget session beginning February 8. ''Though two years have passed since the Act was implemented, the government has failed to even present the first monitoring report in the State legislature,'' claimed the group's convenor Afzal Ansari.
''While the State Information Commission has 10 commissioners, four of them appointed by the present government have not been provided with rooms...they work on a two-hour shift which creates problems in the smooth functioning of the commission,'' he alleged.
Quoting a survey carried out by the group, Ansar said not even one per cent of the public information officers carry out their responsibilities within the prescribed time frame. ''the state Administrative Reforms department and the State Information Commission have in times failed to give out information to the common man within the prescribe period of 30 days,'' he added.
