NCP minority dept demands implementation of Sachar Comm report
Mumbai, Jan 30 (UNI) The city's minority department of the Nationalist Congress Party today demanded immediate implementation of the Sachar Committee report and have decided to go on a one-day hunger strike on February 1 to press for their demands.
Addressing mediapersons, Mumbai Chairman of the NCP's Minority Department Haji Ebrahim Sheikh said the Sachar Committee report have been submitted to the Central Government but, the Government had not implemented the same inspite of many reminders.
''We have been forced to go on a hunger strike against the Government inspite of our leaders being a part of it, as the minorities in the country, especially the Muslims, are not happy with the Government for the non-implementation of the report,'' Mr Ebrahim said.
''If the Government does not respond positively to our hunger strike, we will do it again and again till the report is implemented,'' he added.
It may be noted that the Sachar Committee report deals with the conditions of the backward class in the country especially the Muslims and how they were economically, socially and educationally backward. The Sachar Committee also demands reservation of government jobs for the minorities.
