Health Minister gives JMFC written undertaking

Panaji, Jan 30 (UNI) As directed by the Panaji Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Edgar Fernandes, Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, today gave a written undertaking to the court that he will remain present in court as and when required in connection with the ''Utt Goenkara'' case.

This case is in connection with the Minister's alleged threat to kill the NGO's spokesperson Advocate Aires Rodrigues.

In his undertaking, Mr Rane stated that he will not disclose his identity and will always be represented by an advocate on all dates of hearing. He has also undertaken that sufficient instructions will be given to his advocate and the case will not be adjourned due to his absence.

The Minister in his undertaking, has further stated that he shall subsequently not raise the question of prejudice for having recorded evidence in his absence.

Senior Counsel Mahesh Jetmalani whose services has been engaged by Mr Vishwajit Rane will continue the cross-examination of Advocate Rodrigues on March 14.

The Court will also decide on the application filed by UTT-Goenkara spokesman Advocate Aires Rodrigues seeking that the bail granted to the Health Minister Rane on January 5 be cancelled.
