Government hospitals paralysed in Jammu
Jammu, Jan 30 (UNI) A strike by the entire para-medical staff of the Government Medical College and associated hospitals totally paralysed the heath-care services here today.
Barring emergency wards, work in all the sections, including in-patient and Out-patient Departments (OPDs), of the city hospitals was suspended.
All the scheduled surgeries in the hospitals were postponed. The OPDs also remained closed and no patient was given medical aid.
The hospital sanitation was also affected due to the strike as no one from the sanitary section reported to the in-patient wards, sources told UNI.
The para-medical staff, under the leaderships of the Medical Employees Association and J and K Medical Employees Federation, also took out a peaceful procession from the GMCH, Jammu, up to the Shalamar Chowk near the Civil Secretariat.
Highlighting increased workload in the hospitals, the health employees were demanding appointments against all the vacant posts in the department and induction of ad-hoc and permanent workers.
