DK against GO fixing minimum marks for SC/ST scholarship

Chennai, Jan 30 (UNI) The Dravidar Kazhagam today condemned the Centre for issuing a Government Order, fixing a minimum of 60 per cent marks for the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe students, studying in educational institutions run by the Centre, to avail educational scholarships.

In a statement here, DK President K Veeramani said the order issued by the Social Welfare department would badly affect the SC/ST students and deprive them of an opportunity to take up higher studies.

Stating that the Government scholarships were the lifeline for these oppressed class students, Mr Veeramani said fixing 60 per cent marks for availing the benefit amounted to putting an end to their education.

He said the Centre should immediately withdraw the order and wanted Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to take up the issue with the Centre and provide justice to the students.

Mr Veeramani said the students community was agitated over the order and if they launched an agitation, the DK itself would lead the stir.
