Collector adopts Gandhigiri in Chhattisgarh

Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, Jan 30 (UNI) A favourite bhajan of Mahatma Gandhi is being successfully used at the local collectorate for enhancing officials' dedication to duty.

Since new year, the 400-odd employees of 21 departments begin each working day after listening to a rendering of 'Vaishnav jan toh tene kahiye je...' in a 'Prerna Kaksh' (Inspiration Room) at 1030 hrs. The bhajan is also played prior to key meetings.

''The exercise is ensuring regular and punctual attendance of employees ranging from class one to class four-level officials. This is a non-punitive measure for firming up the administration and also aids in tension management,'' claimed Collector Ganesh Shankar Mishra.

The Gandhigiri goes further as a proposal has been made to name the entry routes to the collectorate as Satya, Ahimsa and Aparigrah, the collector's room as 'Samvedna Kaksh' and the garden as 'Gandhi Udyan'. A new Gandhi statue is being put up.
