Cold wave persists in Delhi, mercury drops to 4.1 Deg C
New Delhi, Jan 30 (UNI) There was no let up for Delhiites from the severe cold wave sweeping the city over the last two days with the mercury dropping to 4.1 degrees Celsius today.
After a slight rise in temperature at 5.3 degrees yesterday, the minimum temperature today fell to 4.1 degrees, 4 degrees below normal.
The maximum was also recorded three degrees below normal at 19.5 degrees C.
A slight mist was also witnessed in the morning, though visibility remained normal at 800 m.
The chill could intensify in the coming days with weathermen forecasting a drop in the minimum temperature to 3 degrees tomorrow.
The weathermen attribute the prevailing cold wave conditions in the national capital to cold Northwesterly winds, which on Monday led to a drop in the mercury to 2.3 degrees.
In view of the cold wave, the Delhi government has announced closure of all primary schools in the city till February 2.
The met office has forecast a mainly clear sky in the next 24 hours in the capital.
