Cabinet extends tenure of ECBs, denotifies tribes panel

New Delhi, Jan 30 (UNI) The Union Cabinet today okayed extension of tenure of the Commission for Economically Backward Classes not covered by the existing reservation policy by six months from February 1, 2008 on existing terms and conditions.

"The welfare measures recommended by the Commission would benefit the economically backward sections of society by giving them adequate representation in services," Union Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs Minister P R Dasmunsi told reporters after a Cabinet meeting here.

The Cabinet also approved extension of the term of the National Commission for Denotified Tribes and Semi Nomadic and Nomadic Tribes from February 6 to August 5, 2008.

With the extension of term granted, the Commission would be able to submit its report to the Government.
