Gulbarga, Jan 30: A six-year-old boy, who fell into a 40-ft deep abandoned borewell today at Bhusanur, was rescued safely after a massive operation in this district of Karnataka.

Top police and revenue officials, who reached the spot this morning to rescue Navanath, said he had fallen accidentally into the open borewell and got stuck in the middle around 0900 hrs.

They said they were able to rescue the boy safely by establishing a communication with the boy by dropping a microphone along with a rope to pull him back from a depth of 22 ft.

Oxygen and water were supplied continuously during the operation, which lasted for more than ten hours, they added.

Earlier efforts to dig a parallel pit had failed, they said.

The boy suffered some minor brushes on his shoulder and is safe, they added.
