Jumbos get hot-oil massage to beat cold

New Delhi, Jan 29, 2008 : Elephants of a zoo in India"s northern Lucknow city are getting a special massage to beat the biting cold as an intense cold wave grips the country"s northern region.

To keep them warm, the zookeepers are not only bathing the pachyderms, but also massaging the animals with hot mustard oil. Besides the oil massages, the elephants are also on a special diet of sugarcane.
