Tribal body urges SEO to check MLAs' conduct
Shillong, Jan 29 (UNI) The Meghalaya Tribal Welfare Association (MTWA) has urged the State Electoral Officer to issue an order to all MLAs to erase their names displayed on vehicles or materials purchased under MLA schemes in view of the coming elections.
Seeking the intervention of the election department to check 'improper' display of MLAs' names, the MTWA said anything purchased by any MLA under the State or Central schemes become a public property.
''It is improper on the part of the MLAs to project their names on the materials purchased as it sends a wrong message that the items belong to the MLA,'' the MTWA said.
A single-phase election to the 60-member Assembly will be held on March 3.
