Police lathicharge Panchayat teachers

Patna, Jan 29 (UNI) Police today lathicharged Panchayat teachers protesting their proposed retrenchment here.

Police said hundreds of panchayat teachers, including women, took out a procession from Gandhi maidan and were trying to enter the state Assembly premises.

The agitating mob became violent near the R-block, where police had to resort to mild lathicharge to disperse them in which some of the agitators sustained minor injuries.

Police further said about 15 agitating teachers were detained and kept at the Sachiwalaya police station.

Meanwhile, the dialogue between the representatives of the agitators and that of the government remained inconclusive.

The state government had taken decision to remove 18,000 panchayat teachers, who had secured less than 45 per cent marks in their intermediate examination.
