Physical verification of drought relief works directed

Lucknow, Jan 29 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh chief secretary P K Mishra today directed the officials concerned to make physical verification of drought relief measures.

Reviewing the progress of Jal Nigam works, Mr Mishra said the work of installation of new hand pumps should be accelerated in addition to the fixed target.

He added that the availability of water should be possitively checked before the installation of new hand pumps.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the tardy progress of minor irrigation works, the chief secretary directed the officials to either pull up socks or be ready to face the music.

Mr Mishra, who was presiding over a State-level disaster relief committee meeting here, further warned the Jal Nigam officials that action would be initiated against them, if any dereliction of duty was found during inspection of drought-hit districts of Bundelkhand region.

The chief secretary also reviewed the progress of Food and Civil Supplies Department works being carried out in the drought-hit districts and directed to make surprise inspection of free foodgrain distribution, which is being provided to about 21,000 persons by the department.
