BU to revive School of Engineering
Tiruchirapalli, Jan 29 (UNI) The Bharathidasan University (BU) will revive its School of Engineering to offer UG and PG courses in Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics from the coming academic year.
Informing this to newspersons yesterday after a meeting of the syndicate here, University Vice-Chancellor Ponnavaiko said the engineering programme paraphernalia created earlier in the School of Engineering (later named as Bharathidasan Institute of Technology) was transferred to the newly-formed Anna University Tiruchirapalli.
About 300 acres of land, buildings, teaching staff and students were transferred to the technical university, he said adding the Syndicate had approved the proposal for activating the school.
He said the university was equipped with requisite facilities for offering engineering programmes in Computer Science and Biotechnology and related areas.
Dr Ponnavaiko said the University would form a consultative committee to implement 'Cluster College' concept wherein affiliated autonomous and non-autonomous colleges would be grouped for the purpose of according impetus to choice-based credit system and research activities through maximising utilisation of laboratories, libraries and human resources.
