Bajpe International Airport to have Cargo terminal
Mangalore, Jan 29 (UNI) The Customs Department has cleared decks for establishment of cargo terminal at the Bajpe International airport thus fulfilling the long pending demand of traders and fright passengers, according to Chief Commissioner of Customs Heera Radhakrishnan.
"However, this would be materialised only after completion of the works in the new terminal building by the airport authorities", she added.
Speaking at a function organised to celebrate International Customs Day last night, Ms Radhakrishnan said that the airport which had since been upgraded to international airport standard deserved the facility and the department was also willing to provide required infrastructure and staff to the new cargo terminal project.
Stating that functioning of the police, coastal police force and the coast guard was 'not satisfactory' in dealing with the prevention of smuggling of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, Ms Radhakrishnan said that there was need for proper coordinated approach among all the agencies in tackling this issue.
She said that the customs department is ready and keen on extending its cooperation in the joint operations to totally prevent the smuggling.
Bajpe Airport Director M R Vasudeva, in his address, said that since the airport which is receiving international flights there was urgent need of the cargo terminal. The facility would enhance the revenue of the airport.
