Two more ECI officials arrive in Tripura

Agartala, Jan 28 (UNI) Director of the Election Commission of India (ECI) R Pandey and Secretary Willfriend arrived here this morning and left for Manu in North Tripura, 90 kms from here, to hold a meeting for ensuring peaceful and fair election in Tripura on February 23.

The ECI officials would review the administrative measures and oversee the poll preparation while investigating the allegations of violation of model code of conduct by the state government.

They would also apprise the implications of the commission's directions as well as clarify certain points of instruction to the Returning officers and other top poll officials of the area, said state Chief Electoral Officer G S G Ayyanger, who accompanied them to Manu.

They were expected to return by this evening and hold another meeting with the senior state officials.

ECI Commissioner R Balakrishnan was expected to arrive here tomorrow.

Meanwhile, four central observers had reached in the state last week and would be in all four districts up to first week of February for monitoring the political and administrative affairs.
