Poduval cremated with state honours

Thrissur, Jan 28 (UNI) The body of Maddalam maestro Kalamandalam Appukuttan Poduval was today cremated at Ivar Madhom at Thiruvillamala in the district with state honours.

Poduval, who passed away at his residence in Thiruvillamalai yesterday, was 84. He is survived by his wife and four daughters.

Hundreds of people paid their last respects to the noted artiste.

District Collector M Beena placed a wreath on behalf of the government.

Poduval, who elevated the status of Maddalam to the Kathakali stage, was the recipient of many awards.
