Naxalites trigger landmine at MV 79 jail
Bhubaneswar, Jan 28 (UNI) The walls of an under construction jail were damaged in a landmine explosion triggered by the Naxalites late last night, police said today.
Naxalites planted three landmines at the residential quarters of the MV 79 jail, Malkangiri Superintendent of Police S K Gajbhiye told UNI over phone.
He said there was no damage to the roof of the building and only the walls were damaged in the explosion. An expert team had rushed to the site to inspect the damage and reported that the building was safe.
The construction of the MV 79 jail was almost nearing completion when the explosion took place. It would house some 200 male and 50 female prisoners.
The SP said immediate after the landmine explosion, the area was cordoned off and combing operation was intensified to flush out the Naxalites.
