Guwahati HC relieves former Meghalaya CM
Shillong, Jan 28 (UNI) The Shillong bench of Guwahati High Court today relieved former Meghalaya Chief Minister E K Mawlong of the proposed CBI inquiry, initiated by the state government for more than five years ago.
In his order, Mr Justice T Vaiphei directed the state government not to pursue its direction made on December 12 ,2002, urging the Ministry of Personnel and Public grievances to entrust the case related to the controversial construction of Meghalaya House in Kolkata to the CBI.
The court, however, said if there was any proof against Mr Malwong, the state government was free to submit the documents related to the case to the CBI.
Mr Mawlong was ousted as the Chief Minister of the UDP-led Meghalaya Parliamentary Forum government on December 2001 following the controversial Meghalaya House deal, signed between the government and private company AHCL to construct a Meghalaya House in Kolkata. '' For the past five years, the machinery of investigation has not been activated and whatever action taken by the authorities hitherto has been confined to a series of correspondences exchanged between the state government and the Ministry of Personnel, Union Government without any tangible result, '' Mr Vaiphei stated.
