Cane growers withdraw stir in Tamil Nadu

Thanjavur (Tamil Nadu), Jan 28: The Sugarcane Growers Association here today announced it was withdrawing the road roko agitation called by it for non-payment of cane arrears by the Arignar Anna Sugar Mills following talks between representatives of the Mill Management and the farmers.

According to an official release, the management had agreed to pay Rs 66.37 lakh to 146 farmers tomorrow and disburse amount for Rs six crore worth cane supplied to the Mills before February six.

The Management also agreed to make payments without any delay.

Following the assurances, the farmers decided to withdraw tomorrow's stir, the release quoting District Collector S Vijayarajkumar said.
