Eastern fleet adjudged overall winner
Visakhapatnam, Jan 26 (UNI) The Eastern fleet was adjudged the overall winner and the Western fleet was declared runner-up in the 'Pulling Regatta-2008', which involved ships of both Eastern and the visiting Western fleets, conducted in the Naval Dock Yard here today.
Vice-Admiral Raman P Suthan, Flag officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, who was the Chief Guest, gave away the coveted 'Cock Trophy' to Eastern fleet.
The races were held in three categories, namely, Junior sailors, Senior sailors and Officers and for the Best Whaler.
The regatta involved a keenly contested race, lasting the entire distance of 1.3 km in the Naval Channel.
Among Junior sailors Western fleet won and the other three events in the Senior sailors and Officers category prizes were swept away by the Eastern fleet.
The 'Silver Oar' for Best Whaler was also restored to the Eastern fleet after a gap of 13 years.
