Vice-President to inaugurate Kosambi Festival in Goa on Feb 4

Panaji, Jan 25 (UNI) Vice-President Hamid Ansari will inaugurate a four-day ''D D Kosambi Festival of Ideas'' to be held from from February 4.

Speaking to the mediapersons here today, Chief Minister Digamber Kamat said D D Kosambi was a historian and mathematician who had introduced new perspectives and methods in Indological studies.

The festival is being held to commemorate the birth centenary of DDK who was born in Goa. The festival is also being hosted in honour of DDK's father Dharmanand Kosambi.

The four-day programme will commence with talk by Dr Meera Kosambi on ''D D Kosambi: A Scholar and the Man'', and inauguration of the photo exhibition of by Mr P Sainath on ''Visible Work and Invisible Women''.

Mr Sainath will also deliver a talk the next day on ''Rising Inequality and the Danger to Democracy''. On February 6, noted historian Romila Thapar will deliver a lecture on ''D D Kosambi's Legacy to the Study of Ancient Indian History''.

On February 7, well-known scientist Dr Vivek Monteiro will deliver a lecture on ''Science is the Cognition of Necessity''.

Mr Kamat also said the committee has organised activities at school and college levels that plans to offer two annual research grants.
