Security beefed up for R-Day celebrations
Agartala, Jan 25 (UNI) Security has been beefed up in Tripura following the call by militant outfits to boycott the Republic Day celebrations tomorrow.
Director General of Police K T D Singh told mediapersons here today that all entry points into the major towns and vital installations were under the close vigil of the security personnel.
Armed police force has been deployed in sensitive areas with sniffer dogs and bomb squads pressed into service for extensive search operation in public places.
About 1000 policemen were placed on 'bandobast' duty round the clock, Mr Singh said.
Besides, security has been tightened at temples, markets, airports and VIP areas. The passengers and visitors were also being frisked by security men at the border points.
Four militant outfits from Tripura, Asom and Manipur had given a call to boycott the Republic Day and observe it as 'black day'.
