Police foil militant plans to trigger blasts in Kashmir

Srinagar, Jan 25 (UNI) Militant plans to trigger a series of blasts a day before Republic day were foiled by the security forces in the Kashmir valley, official sources said.

They said militants had planted a powerful improvised Explosive Device (IED) at Rawalpora on Srinagar-old Airport road this evening to target security forces.

However, alert security forces patrolling the area detected the IED before it could go off. The area was immediately sealed and the IED was defused without causing any damage.

The Jammu and Kashmir police today foiled a militant plan to trigger a powerful IED in the frontier district of Kupwara, sources said.

They said during a routine patrolling, a police party noticed a five kg IED near a public school at Drugmullah in north Kashmir.

The area was immediately sealed and the people were evacuated to safer places. Later, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) defused the IED without causing any damage, they added.

A patrol of security forces detected an IED planted by militants under a culvert at Chenad crossing in north Kashmir's Baramulla district today.

However, the IED was defused by the BDS safely.
