Former Pak IB chief asks Musharraf to resign

Lahore, Jan 25 : Former Director General of Pakistan Intelligence Bureau, Masood Sharif, has called upon President Pervez Musharraf to resign from his office to make way for smooth transition of power to political authority in the shortest possible stipulated period.

"Mr President, if you resign from your office now Pakistan and Pakistanis, throughout the country, will once again be at peace with each other", Masood said in an open letter to Musharraf.

Masood told Musharraf that he and his government have now become a huge problem and that he is certainly not equal to the task of finding a solution to the gigantic problems faced by Pakistan.

"The destructive events of 2007 cannot be wished away. The naked assault of your government on the judiciary, led by you from the front, on March 9, 2007, triggered off a chain of events that devastated the country all through the preceding year", he further writes in his letter.

He has also mentioned assassination of Benazir Bhutto on December 27, 2007, saying that Pakistan lost an internationally recognised political and intellectual personality, and country was reduced to paralysis in the aftermath of tragic incident. asood termed the law and order situation in the country deplorable, and believed that Musharraf had mishandled the situation in erstwhile peaceful tribal areas and other parts of the North West Frontier Province, The Nation reported.

"Mr President, make way for The Pakistani Dream and become a part of it too. I urge you, and I am sure millions of Pakistanis would second me on this, to take the above mentioned steps", he writes in his letter.
