Cold wave continues in UP; 14 dead

Lucknow, Jan 24 (UNI) Cold wave conditions continued to prevail over Uttar Pradesh, even as at least 14 people, including a woman, died in the past 24 hours.

The latest deaths were reported from Sonebhadra, Moradabad, Mahoba, Sultanpur, Bareilly, Agra, Etah, Sant Kabirnagar and Siddharthnagar districts, reports reaching here said.

The sun god remained behind the veil of clouds at most places in UP, including Lucknow.

In Sonebhadra, three people have died, including a woman, due to intense cold wave in the last 24 hrs.

Kanpur was the coldest with 6.8 degrees celsius which is two degrees below the normal.

Smog and cold wave has also affected the movement of trains and road traffic. Many long distance trains were running several hrs late due to fog.

According to the met office, the cold wave would continue to persist for a few days with few spells of shower at certain places.

Meanwhile, the entire purvanchal (eastern UP) region is under the grip of cold wave, which has thrown the normal life out of gear.
