BDO arrested, sent to jail on rape charges

Baripada,Jan 25 (UNI) A Block Development Officer(BDO) was arrested and sent to jail for allegedly attempting to rape a lady sarpanch.

Police today said Kusumi BDO Dhananjoy Hembrom was arrested on Thursday last by the local police on charges of outraging the modesty of the Sarpanch of the Hatbad-da Gram panchayat.

The police action followed after the lady Sarpanch lodged an FIR on January 23 at Badampahar police station.

In her FIR, the lady sarapanch alleged that the BDO called her to his official residence and attempted to outrage her modesty.

The BDO's plea for bail was rejected by a local court at Rairangpur and sent to jail custody, sources said.
