3,000 chickens culled in North 24 Parganas
Bangaon, Jan 25 (UNI) At least 3,000 chickens were culled at Maraldanga and Tarangakathi villages under Gaighata police station in North 24 Parganas today.
Official sources said here today that though there were no reports of existence of the bird flu virus so far in North 24 Parganas, the administration had ordered the culling of birds from the villages as they were within five km periphery of an affected village under adjacent Nadia district.
Altogether, five teams from the animal husbandry department were sent to the Gaighata village, where 5,500 more birds would be culled, the team officials said.
Meanwhile, the state Animal Resource Development department claimed that the situation was gradually improving with about ten lakh chickens killed throughout the state so far.
