President, Vice-President condole Usha Narayanan's demise

New Delhi, Jan 24 (UNI) President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil and Vice-President Hamid Ansari today expressed deep sorrow over the death of Usha Narayanan, wife of former President K R Narayanan.

In a condolence message, Mrs Patil said Usha was known for her active participation in the welfare and uplift of women and children, especially from the weaker sections of society.

Mrs Patil also recalled her deep interest in gardening, which was reflected in the Mughal Gardens of Rashtrapati Bhavan when she was the first lady.

Mr Ansari in his message said he had received with deep sorrow, the news of the demise of Usha Narayanan. He has expressed his heartfelt condolences to her family.

Usha passed away here this evening after a prolonged illness.
