Massive security arrangement for R-Day

Imphal, Jan 24 (UNI) Security has been beefed up throughout Manipur following a call given by four militant groups of the Northeastern region to boycott the Republic Day celebrations.

Sucurity personnel are checking passers by at important places to thwart any attempt to disrupt the celebrations as the main function will be held at Kangla.

Governor Dr Shivinder Singh Sidhu will unfurl the tri-colour at Kangla while Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh will address the participants at the parade ground of Ist Manipur Rifles.

About 61 contingents will be participating in the parade while seven tableaux will be displayed. A number of gallantry awards will also be presented on the occasion.
