Undertrial alleges ill-treatment in jail
Mumbai, Jan 23 (UNI) An Indian Navy sailor Manish Thakur, who had been arrested in connection with the murder of his girlfriend and lodged as an undertrial in the Arthur Road jail here, has accused the jailor of ill-treating him.
Thakur was arrested in May last year for allegedly murdering his girlfriend Koshambi Layek.
Advocate P A Thakur, representing the accused, had filed an affidavit in the court of Judge K D Bhosale alleging that his client was assaulted in the jail.
Following this, the court had directed the civil surgeon of J J Hospital to examine the accused and submit a report. The medical report states that the accused had bruises below both the eyes and calves.
Judge Bhosale has directed the chief metropolitan magistrate to assign a court to conduct an inquiry into the matter.
