Temperatures drop to its lowest in Gangtok

Gangtok, Jan 23 (UNI) The higher altitudes of Gangtok witnessed heavy snowfall with slight drizzles as the temperature plummeted to its lowest today.

Popular tourist spots like Changu Lake (13,000 ft) and Nathu La (14,400 ft) received heavy snowfall, which started since last night.

However, the bitter cold and slippery terrain could not deter a few tourists to travel towards Changu Lake.

The minimum temperature was five degrees Celsius, a record for this season, the local Met office said.

People preferred to stay indoors due to poor visibility following fog enveloping the hill town.

The weathermen have forecast that the temperatures might drop further in the next few days.
