Sort out problems in PDS: CPI(M)
Mysore, Jan 23 (UNI) The 19th CPI(M) State conference today urged the Karnataka Government to sort out the problems in Public Distribution System (PDS) immediately.
A resolution, adopted by the conference on this behalf, alleged that both Centre and State Governments were trying to curtail the PDS following the directions from the World Bank and International Monitory Funds that the number of PDS shoul be reduced. The party would launch State wide agitation if the problems were not solved, it added.
In another resolution CPI(M) urged the Government to take necessary steps to allot houses to the people living in slums, alleging that in the name of development the State Government was evicting the slum dwellers without providing alternative arrangements.
The conference strongly opposed the new APMC Act in the State and demanded that it should be cancelled immediately.
